Rabbi Shmuel Tendler is the Rabbi of Cong. Sons of Israel. If you check out the website of the shul you will discover that is more about death, then prayer. The website is run by FuneralAlone and list hundreds of obituaries. The reason is simple – Tendler’s cash cow is the funeral business. Even on the High Holidays the shul has trouble filling the sanctuary up the sanctuary. To help resolve that problem Tendler demands from all the divorcees that he manages their affairs, to attend the synagogue, regardless of how far or how hard it is for them to come.
Rabbi Tendler is very involved in arranging peaceful divorces. When it comes to comes to abusive homes, he prefers the method of doing nothing and encourages all those that ask him for guidance to do the same.
A few dollars….
Rabbi Tendler runs his funeral operation from the Holocaust Memorial Chapel located in the heart of the cemetery. Needless to say, that this is the most convenient location for such an operation. All taharos and preparations are done at the site. Legally no funeral parlor may be situated in a cemetery, but he got away with it by simply not registering it at all!! It does not exist on the map.
The entire holocaust chapel is illegal as it against the law for a cemetery to provide funeral services and it’s illegal to have a funeral home in the midst of a cemetery.
As simple search on the NJ State Funeral Director’s Association website shows that the holocaust Memorial Chapel is not registered.
Same goes for a license for dealing with such matters (mortuary science). A simple search reveals they don’t have one.
By law, a licensed and certified funeral director must oversee a body’s final disposition. What does this mean? One example is that New Jersey state law mandates that the funeral director overseeing final disposition must file the death certificate.’ The Holocaust memorial Chapel cannot have a licensed director as it does not exist on paper. So Tendler engages the services of other directors who make believe it all happened at their funeral parlor.
Another trick Tendler like to use is to initiate a ‘trade service’ or a ‘trade call’. Tendler has an arrangement with a funeral home in Brooklyn who starts the registration for a death certificate as if the body was in Brooklyn at the time of death, like this there no need to keep records. The law is ‘Funeral records shall be kept, electronically or otherwise, on an annualized basis for seven
years and each funeral shall be designated by a number assigned consecutively at the time
funeral arrangements are made. The information on such records shall be recorded after the
completion of each funeral. The oldest six years of information shall be maintained in such a
manner so as to be retrievable and readable within two weeks. The most recent one year of
information shall be immediately retrievable and readable.’ If the funeral officially started in NY he is exempt from holding any records as he can tell the state of NJ, go speak to NY.
By NJ law ‘Every cemetery company must have a price list which shall be posted by the cemetery company in its office or another conspicuous location at the cemetery and filed with the New Jersey Cemetery Board. A cemetery company cannot charge a fee for a service that is not on the price list filed with the Board office, except when the service provided is unique or highly specialized.’ Tendler never heard of this law. He makes up the price as he goes on.
A few more dollars…
On 7/2/2001 Lakewood BOE sells a part of its school backyard (on Block 223.01 ) to Sons of Israel for $150,000. Somerset Development (Ralph Zucker) immediately purchases the lot from Cong. Sons of Israel for $225,000, Somerset Development with the help of Tendler gets it divided into five lots (Ralph Zucker) sells it for $625,000 on July,3,2002.
$75,000 for a fast flip is good deal. The real question is: why is the board of Education selling real estate??
